John Wesley Hunter was a man of vision. As one of Early County's most successful black farmers, he saw past life as a sharecropper to a future that provided a richer life for his family. Born into poverty in Gordon, Ala., Hunter was the youngest of six boys. He left school early to help support his family, but still became proficient in reading and mathematics. More...

A near capacity crowd was in attendance at the basketball games between the rival Miller Co. Pirates and Early Co Bobcats Feb. 10 at Pirate gymnasium. According to witnesses, a riot started after the games and the boy's teams had gone into the locker rooms. More...

The Early County Market Hog Show was held on Feb. 16, 2009, at the Early County Ag Center. There were 20 contestants that showed 40 hogs.
