John Wesley Hunter was a man of vision. As one of Early County's most successful black farmers, he saw past life as a sharecropper to a future that provided a richer life for his family. Local officials are working with state and national elected officials in an effort to move the community forward despite the bad publicity caused by Peanut Corp. of America and financial strain caused by the tailspinning economy. Post game fight lands four in jail

A near capacity crowd was in attendance at the basketball games between the rival Miller Co. Pirates and Early Co Bobcats Feb. 10 at Pirate gymnasium. According to witnesses, a riot started after the games and the boy's teams had gone into the locker rooms. More...

• Twenty students participate in annual hog show
The Early County Market Hog Show was held on Feb. 16, 2009, at the Early County Ag Center. There were 20 contestants that showed 40 hogs. There were four showmanship classes and six different weight classes. The Novice Showmanship Class winner was Lee Cresswell, with Ty Cooper placing second and Galen Evans placing third. More...
