      Funds in the amount of $8,219 have been made available to Early County for the purpose of supplementing and extending ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for individuals who are without shelter or facing an imminent threat of homelessness.

Barron part of inaugural security
      Fifty members of the Georgia State Patrol were chosen to serve as part of the largest security detail for a presidential inauguration in our nation's history. The troopers spent Sunday thru Wednesday in D.C. Among those 50 members was State Trooper Corporal Thomas "Tommy" J. Barron Jr.

Insurance assistance available
      Georgia residents with insurance problems or questions can receive assistance directly from the commissioner's office by contacting his insurance investigator working in your area. An investigator from the office is scheduled to be in Blakely from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at the courthouse. Please call 723-3033 to confirm the investigator's schedule.

      10 YEARS AGO Feb. 11, 1999 THE EARLY County Bobcats' Recardo Wimbush announced last week that he would play college football with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. MR. AND Mrs. Wayne Thomas celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 6 with a reception hosted by their children and grandchildren at Magnolia on Main restaurant in Blakely.

Blakely man critically injured
      A wreck on U.S. 27 several miles north of Blakely involving a pickup, a backhoe and an 18- wheeler critically injured a Blakely man Sunday afternoon. The GSP accident report has not been released, but Celia Bostwick was following her husband who was driving the backhoe in the southbound lane.

County business conducted
      At last week's county commission meeting, a request to close a portion of Fuller Road was approved and a request by the extension service to purchase a mini bus for $46,121 was approved. The bus cost is paid through SPLOST funds.
