Habitat taking applications

After 20 years of work, the Blakely-Early County Habitat for Humanity is taking applications for their third house.

Those interested must meet three qualifications and fill out an application which can be picked up at the First Baptist Church office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m to 12 noon, or can be accessed online at www.earlycountynews. com.

The critieria for applications include need, income, credit and willingness to partner.

Families who apply must currently reside in substandard housing.

They must have a steady verifiable income that will allow them to meet existing debt and a new mortgage payment. Families must also have adequate credit, which demonstrates a willingness to repay debts. Each homeowner is also required to make a $1,000 down payment.

The minimum income that a family must have is 30 percent of the median family income for Early County and the maximum family income can not be over 50 percent of the median family income.

Families must be willing and able to partner in the building of not only their own home but the homes of others as well. Every family selected into the habitat pro- gram must complete at least 500 "sweat equity hours."

Homeowners are also required to attend homebuyer education workshops provided by Blakely-Early County Habitat for Humanity.

In order for your application to be considered, you must attend an application orientation. Orientations will be scheduled prior to the selection of a habitat home recipient being selected. For more information about the application process, call 724-7171 or 723-6646.
