Merchants invited to participate

Early County retail merchants and small business owners are invited to participate in a seminar to discuss the local economy.

The Early County News is planning the meeting to discuss problems facing the local economy, how it's affecting local merchants and to garner ideas to stimulate the economy.

"Our merchants are experiencing the worst economic strain I've seen them under over the past 40 years," stated publisher Billy Fleming. "A number of them are hanging on by a shoestring."

"While there are several other projects in the works, most of our merchants have been looking to the construction of the Longleaf power plant as the only opportunity to turn our economy around quick enough to provide them the economic boost they need to survive," Fleming said.

"The news that a Fulton County Superior Court judge had delayed

the project was a real kick in their gutt."

The meeting will focus on sharing experiences and bouncing ideas off each other, as well as informing the merchants of everything going on which might help their business.

The meeting will be held this month with the exact time and place announced via letter and in next week's News.
