Students recognized at ECHS Honors Night

Graduation marshals were Katlain Anglin, Mitsy Moreno, Daniel Kinjerski and Anton Moreno.
Early County High School held its honors night program Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Early County High School cafeteria.

Seventy-eight students in attendance were recognized for receiving scholarships and awards as well as highest academic averages in individual courses. Also recognized were STAR student, junior graduation marshalls, honor graduates, valedictorian and salutatorian.

Receiving athletic scholarships were Marah Wright, Darton College, basketball; and Dion'is Bryant, Darton College, baseball.

Receiving academic scholarships were Chris Sumner, Shorter College Presidential Scholar; Ryan Ferguson, Shorter College Presidential Scholar; Breanna Miller and Hannah Nolen, Bainbridge College valedictorian/ salutatorian scholarships; Amie Lednicky, Shorter College Departmental Scholarship; Tonya McFay, Shorter College Departmental Scholarship; Josh Storey, Georgia Southern University Presidential Scholar; Carrie Collier, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College George Conger Scholarship; Hannah Nolen, Troy State University Troy Opportunity Scholarship and Troy University Excellence in Leadership Award; and Daniel Bagwell, Samford University Debate and Journalism Scholarship.

Eight juniors were awarded the Georgia Certificate of Merit.

Smith Scholarship; Carrie Collier, Debra Hunter Scholarship; Carrie Collier, Early-Clay- Calhoun Retired Teacher's Scholarship; Daniel Bagwell, Early County Historical Society Scholarship; Chris Sumner, Ellen B. Thousands of dollars in scholarships were awarded at this year's banquet.
Farm Bureau art contest winners were recognized as Daniel Kinjerski, third; Brittany Lovering, second; and Staci Pyle, first. Student Council president Kristina Cooper was recognized for her year of service to the ECHS Student Council.

Highest average award winners were presented plaques from all departments.
Eight juniors were recognized as Georgia Certificate of Merit recipients, an honor reserved for juniors who rank in the top 5 percent of their class. Those juniors are Katlain Anglin, Katie Crozier, Keneshia Hayes, Daniel Kinjerski, Matt Merritt, Anton Moreno, Mitsy Moreno and Spencer Rice.

Graduation marshals for 2008 are juniors Katlain Anglin, Daniel Kinjerski, Anton Moreno and Mitsy Moreno.

Medals were presented to STAR student Chris Sumner, salutatorian Hannah Nolen and valedictorian Breanna Miller.

Receiving awards in the English department were, Drew Harrell, 9th CP literature and composition; Tenica Williams, 10th CP literature and comprehension; MaryAnn McLendon, 10th honors/gifted literature and composition; Danielle Wilkerson, 11th CP American literature; Angie Drew, 11th gifted/ honors American literature; Brittney Lane, 12th CP British literature; and Breanna Miller, 12th gifted/ honors British literature.

The social science department recognized Jesse Still, CP civics; Denevia Hicks, CP economics; Michael Mettitt, CP American history; Katie Crozier, honors American history; Chris Serra, CP world history; Mariela Castro, honors world history, and Brittany Lane, psychology.

Students with the highest averages throughout the mathematics departments are Robert Kyle Harper, CP Algebra I; Clint Bruner, CP Algebra II; Chris Serra, CP Algebra III; Nancy Moreno, gifted/honors Algebra II; Tenica Williams, CP geometry; Natalie Thompson, gifted/ honors geometry; Tiffany Grigley, gifted/honors algebra/ trigonometry; and Tiffany Grigley, calculus.

For the science department, Jesse Still, CP physical science; Staci Pyle, CP biology; MaryAnn McClendon, gifted/honors biology; Jessica McMullen, CP human anatomy; Angie Drew, CP environmental science; Tiffany Grigley, chemistry; and James Barr, physics.

Female personal fitness/ health highest average went to Courtney Floyd and male physical fitness/ health to Drew Harrell. Rebecca Miliner received highest average in broadcast video.

Highest averages in foreign language classes were Brandrail Brown, Spanish I; Katlain Anglin, Spanish II; MaryAnn McClendon, French I; and MaryAnn McClendon, French II.

Daniel Bagwell received highest average for journalism; Elizabeth Avent, yearbook; Elizabeth Pham, Art I and Staci Pyle, Art II.

Band students recognized were Jalen Bullard, 9th grade band; Lara Meeks, 10th grade band; Anthony Early, 11th grade band; and Angie Drew, 12th grade band.

The choral/drama department awarded highest average honors to Hannah Houston, Chorus I; Chris Sumner, Chorus II; Mitsy Moreno, show choir; Amie Lednicky, drama; Corey Lee, Music Appreciation I; and Stephanie Anderson, Music Appreciation II.

The career, technical and agriculture education department recognized students in business, health occupations, engineering, agriculture, automotive and family and consumer science classes.

Business students with highest averages are Nancy Moreno, computer applications; Odyssey Henderson, multimedia; Megan McMullen, webpage design; Christina Shorter, business procedures and Ivey Browers, Accounting I.

Health occupations highest averages went to Kelsey Rice, Healthcare Science Technology IV; and Whitney Lindsey, certified nursing assistant.

Highest averages in the engineering department are Eric Chandler, preengineering technology; Kollin Pyle, foundations of engineering technology; Chris Serra, engineering applications;Walt Lightsey, engineering concepts; and Daniel Kinjerski, drafting technology-mechanical.

Five students were recognized in the agriculture department. Those students are Kollin Pyle, Agriscience I; Randall Ellis, ag foods; Justin Wilkerson, forestry science; Nitasha Buckhalter, horticulture and Willie Freeman, landscaping.

Patrick White, introduction to automotive services; James McLendon, foundations of automotive technology; and Amber Gardner, intermediate automotive service technology, received highest averages in the automotive department.

Family and consumer science students with highest averages are Tara Horn, early childhood education; Kizzie George, parenting; Elizabeth Avent, advanced foods; Tantania Grier, interior design; Levander Thomas, leadership, Lara Meeks, Foundations of FACS I; and Shonyatta Thorton, FACS II.
