Literacy made easy in summer program

Although Dr. Patricia Edwards, professor of teacher education at Michigan State University, is a renowned educator, author and speaker who has appeared on TV with such personalities as Dan Rather and Big Bird, her message is simple: "You can talk your way to literacy."

For parents - even those with limited reading skills of their own - this is wonderful news because it means that parents can be their child's first and most important teacher.

Parents of three and four year old students enrolled at Early County Elementary School and Head Start are urged to learn more on how to get young children ready for school at the "Parent's Summer Institute" which will be in the Early County Elementary School cafeteria Tuesday, June 3. Two sessions are available, one at 9:30 a.m. and one at 5:30 p.m.

Another very special program that is being presented for parents is "Love and Logic" which is "a win-win philosophy for establishing parental control and discipline." The presenter will be Tammy Storey, and this program will also be provided in two separate sessions: 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5.
