DOT Commissioner Gena Abraham... "some roads won't get built, some intersections won't be improved and some bridges won't be widened because her department is out of money. How bad is it? "We are facing a transportationfunding crisis." DOT has 8,476 projects pending. Only 1,345 have anyone actively assigned to them. And, the combined cost of the active cases is $29.5 billion - 15 times more than the department's annual budget. Now explain to me one more time how the state plans to sustain the continued, unbridled growth of North Georgia. If they were wallering in cash they couldn't build roads up there fast enough! And this just in... The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington has thrown out an agreement that Georgia reached in 2003 with the Army Corps of Engineers. The agreement was the linchpin of (north) Georgia's long-term water plans. It would have given Atlanta about a quarter of Lake Lanier's capacity over the coming decades. Sooo.... explain to me one more time how the state plans to sustain the continued, unbridled grow of North Georgia. Do you reckon it will soon sink in that it would be a good idea to begin diverting the growth to where the resources are instead of continuing to try to divert the resources to where the growth is?
If it doesn't soon sink in, you will soon see gauntlets going up outside Augusta, Savannah, Macon, Columbus and all the way across the gnat line - between the two Georgias.
