Smith named parent of the year

Denise Smith has been named Early County Head Start 2007-2008 parent of the year. According to Head Start staff, Denise is an incredible mother who devotes most of her time at school checking on her children. She always has a smile on her face and eagerly volunteers to help out with a positive, upbeat attitude. She has had the opportunity to serve on many committees and take part in parent meetings and workshops. Her efforts have really benefited the entire school, students and staff. Denise admits that Head Start helped her gain the tools, self-awareness, outlook and confidence to transform her daily parenting challenges into meaningful work infused with energy and optimism. When not checking in on her kids, Denise enjoys going to church, the movies, ball games and fishing. She is married to Thaddeus Brackins and has two daughters, Kimber and Jasmine.
