McLendon to summer in California
This year over 200 college students in Georgia participated in a week-long interview process to determine their acceptance and placement. Alexandria McLendon was one of three girls from Georgia chosen to serve at the First Baptist Church in Tahoe City, Calif., located on the northern shore of Lake Tahoe. She will serve May 28 to August 2 and work in children's ministries teaching 3 year old to 12 year old children. She will serve under, Debbie Wohler, a home missionary with the North American Mission Board. Debbie is known nationwide for her superior skill in mentoring others in missions. Alexandria will begin her senior year at Valdosta State University in August. She plans to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary off campus site after completing her education major next spring. She has served as the interim Minister of Children's Services for First Baptist Valdosta since February and has been asked to serve in that position fulltime after graduation. Alexandria has served in children's ministries for the past two summers at First Baptist Church in Blakely. She is a 2005 graduate of Early County High School. During her senior year, she had the opportunity to participate in a teacher preparatory program at Early County Elementary School. She says that it was through that opportunity and the guidance of the teachers, Pam Child and Cynthia Lavette, that she began to know that she would be called to the field of teaching children.
Alexandria is the daughter of Hoyle and Deborah McLendon and the sister of Kristen Wieler and Tre McLendon. Her maternal grandparents are Marshal and Betty Day. Her paternal grandparents are Kate McLendon and the late Hoyle McLendon Sr.
