Early Co. youth dies in mishap

A 12-year-old Early County Middle School student was killed Friday night when he and his brother fell from the back of a pickup truck on Old Lucile Road south of Blakely.

According to the Georgia State Patrol accident report, Ricardo "Ricky" Cardenas and two other youths were riding in the back of a 2002 Ford F250 pickup loaded with loose sheets of scrap tin.

Two of the youths, Ricardo and his 14- year-old brother Brandon, were knocked from the truck when the tin became airborne and flew out of the truck.

The injured youths were loaded into the front of the truck and taken to a residence on Curtis McCorkle Road where EMS were called.

The two injured youths were taken by ambulance to the Miller County Hospital. Ricardo died from his injuries at the hospital. Brandon was airlifted to Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee.

The truck, registered to Musgrove Construction of Live Oak, Fla., was driven by Ellis Aldridge, 48, of Blakely.
