And the mayor kissed a pig...

Court Square was the site of the 2008 Early County Relay for Life Friday night. Fundraising had been underway the past four months in an effort to reach this year's goal of raising $65,000.

Friday's activities began with a reception and dinner for the survivors highlighted by an inspirational speech by survivor Mary Hodges.

Opening ceremonies, including donor recognition and entertainment, began at 7 p.m. followed by the opening lap of the relay by cancer survivors, the second by caregivers and the third by tri-state bikers.

Activities and entertainment, including the lighting of family candles, memory luminaries and presentation of living luminaries, began at 7:30 p.m.

Closing ceremonies began at 11:30 p.m. with the final lap of the relay at 11:45.

Bingo & Awards May 2

The Relay for Life activities will conclude with a community wide wrap-up and bingo night Friday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Early County High School cafeteria.

An awards and recognition ceremony will begin at 6:30 with bingo starting at 7 p.m. Bingo cards are $25 each and can be purchased from relay teams. There will be cash and prizes donated by local merchants.
Is Mayor Ric Hall's kiss really worth $500? Ask the pig who received the smooch at this year's Relay for Life.
