Peyton Cook Sr. Peyton Horace Cook Sr., 94, of Sumter Retirement Village in Plains, Ga., died Monday, March 31, 2008, at the residence of his granddaughter, Tracie McLendon and husband Marty in Leary. Mr. Cook was born in Early County May 2, 1913, to the late Davis Crawford Cook and Carrie Jane Darley Cook. He and his wife owned and operated a convenience store near Albany. After retirement they enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. Mr. Cook was a founding member of Cuba Presbyterian Church in Blakely. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnette Daniels Cook; two daughters, Angeline Cook Barksdale and Carolyn Cook Adams; a grandson, John David Cook; six brothers, Clarence Cook, William Edgar Cook, Arthur Daniel Cook, John David Cook, A.P. Cook and James Leslie Cook; seven sisters, Elizabeth Pearl Cook Gordon, Ella Virginia Cook Tarpley, Annie Laura Cook Brooks, Mattie Lou Cook Jones, Carrie Belle Cook Hayes, Nora Lee Cook Harris and Hattie Mae Cook Lane. Survivors include two sons, Peyton Horace Cook Jr., and wife Brenda of Charleston, S.C., and Shellman, Ga., and Wendell Lamar Cook and wife Glenda of Rome, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Barbara Adams Raines of Albany, Tracie Adams McLendon of Leary, Stephen Adams of Rawlins, Wy., Lisa DeThomas Shaw of Albany, Peyton H. Cook III of Anchorage, Ak., Wendell L. Cook Jr., of Huntsville, Ala. and Terrel D. Cook of Harvest, Ala.; and 14 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church in Shellman with Rev. Jim Eubanks officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington. Pallbearers were Wendell Cook, Adam McLendon, Larry Jones, Clarence Cook, Terrell Cook and Earl Cook. Dan Cook served as an honorary pallbearer.
Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
