Mumbles
The backdrop of the Blakely Theater painted by Sarah Murkerson for Saturday's reunion program was great. It needed one finishing touch, however... the projection room window down with Frank Dixon looking out at the traffic on Court Square. Somewhere during John and Martha's impersonation of Barney and Elaine Wynne a question came to mind. For a number of years it was a tradition that someone would climb the old water tank located off the northeast corner of Court Square and paint Class of 1964" on the side. I used "Class of 1964" because I was the last to do so. Why the tradition ended is another story. The question that came to mind was who did the honor over the years? If we can find out who they are, we'll officially recognize them as "The Water Tank Gang." Whump!!! I finally found someone who remembered a plane crash that I was beginning to believe was only a figment of a recurring dream. But, Charles Davenport, one of the old Church Street Gang, also remembered the crash and has a photo.
Charles remembered the crash because there was a time he would retrieve papers from the bag and run a paper route on his bike. Several folks who had read last week's Mumbles brought to my attention that I had forgotten a few hangouts and gathering places. I had to kindly remind them that those hangouts were no longer around when my class ruled. Yes, there sure were a lot of old folks there!
I was proud to be one of them. Let's do it again soon!
