Mumbles
It's a good thing that statistic isn't three in four! We might have 1,800 people showing up this weekend instead of 600. Actually, that would've been neat. Something just came to mind. Very little of the school buildings any of those returning classmates remember are still standing. The Blakely High Mangham auditorium and Hammock gym both dating back to the late 50s are still in place, as is the gym at Washington high, now used by the rec department. The auditorium and part of the old Damascus school is still standing and being used by Southwest Georgia Academy. And, I guess, some of the Jakin school and gym is still standing, but I haven't been off the main drag in Jakin in a few years. Do you suppose the flood of memories that are going to be spilled this weekend will include stories involving any of the following... Tarver's old swimming pool, Cafe 27, the Blue Hole, B&B Drive-in, New Year's night on Court Square, Howard's Mill, the "Mounds," Coheelee Creek, Factory Falls, the fair at the American Legion or the traveling skate rink in "the bottom." Anybody remember the best roller-skater? How 'bout old Key Knight? I hope everyone has a great time this weekend. And, I hope you have as much fun reliving the embellished memories as you did creating them. One final note, don't forget to visit our website, turn your computer volume up and click on Welcome Back! ************
