FFA places in career development events

FFA winners sit outside the FFA/FCCLA camp entrance in Covington.
The Early County FFA Floriculture Team recently competed in the Area V FFA Floriculture Career Development Event. The team placed fifth out of 18 teams. The event was at Berrien High School in Nashville, Ga., March 6.

Team members Clifton LeGrone, Cassie Sasnett, John Dunnigan and Tasha Buckhalter identified floriculture and bedding plant materials and identified ways to treat unhealthy plants due to pests, nutritional, mechanical or chemical injuries. Clifton LeGrone was the high individual for the team and placed 11th out of 61 students. The floriculture team was coached by Eric Harris and Kitty Simmons.

The Early County Environmental Natural Resources Team placed first in the Area V career development event Feb. 26, and advanced to the state competition. The state ENR event was March 15, in Covington at the FFA/FCCLA Camp. Early County FFA placed fifth in the state. Team members were Jason Gentry, Justin Wilkerson, Cody Aycock and Heath Busby. Busby placed high individual at the Area V contest. This team was coached by Larry Worsley.

Monday, March 24 the winners of the Area V FFA Secretary's Book and Reporters Scrapbook were announced. Early County FFA won first place in both competitions. Danielle Wilkerson is the Early County FFA secretary and Laura Shaw is the reporter. Both books will advance to the state level for judging. State results will be announced at the 80th Georgia State FFA Convention in Macon, April 24-26.
