Graham Coates E. Graham Coates, 80, of Albany died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at his home following an illness. Dr. Coates was born a native of Shorterville, Ala., but had lived in Albany since 1966. He graduated with honors from Ft. Gaines High School in 1944 and was voted most likely to succeed. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1947 in the Philippines. He graduated from Tennessee Temple College in 1955, attended Baylor University Graduate School and earned a degree in English literature and a minor in theology, and entered the Medical College of Georgia and graduted in 1962. He interned at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and served his residency in psychiatry at Tulane Medical School from 1963-1966. Dr. Coates began his private practice in 1966 in Albany and retired in 2000. He was a member of Albany Bible Church and the Dougherty County Medical Society. Survivors include his wife, Susan Coates of Albany; a daughter, Lara Coates of Albany; two sons, Chris Coates and Ronnie Coates and wife Carmella, all of Albany; one brother, Leon Coates of Ft. Gaines; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Albany Bible Church with Pastor Pete Daughtry officiating.
Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
