SGA literary team places second in region Southwest Georgia Academy's literary team received second runner-up in the GISA Region 3AA literary competition March 5 in Thomasville. Contestants in six events placed either first or second and advanced to state competition March 11 at Valdosta State University. Placing first in region were Maggie Bridges, Kimber Henley and Camille Whittaker in girls' trio; Maggie Bridges in girls' solo; and Michaelyn Newberry in humorous interpretation. Second-place winners were Ben Burkett, Beau Clenney, Will Murdock and Blake Shepard in boys' quartet; Will Murdock in dramatic interpretation; and Lane Hudson in boys' argumentative essay. Jason Dean placed third in spelling and Erin Simmerock placed third in personal essay. Mary Wallace Corrigan competed in girls' argumentative essay. Alternates were Laura Leigh Bell in personal essay; Alan Mock in spelling; Madison Bridges in oral interpretation; Kimber Henley in girls' solo; Anne Marie Walters, Whitney Morrell and Madison Bridges in trio; and Sam Odom in quartet.
Coaches for the literary team are Debbie Sloan, Sherri Newberry, Anngene Gibbs and Henrinel Middleton.
