Warriors trounce Fullington Trojans

The SGA Warriors traveled to Pinehurst to kick off the 2008 baseball season against the Fullington Academy Trojans. The Warriors started the season off with a bang hitting two homeruns and scoring 13 runs in the first inning on their way to trouncing the Trojans 16-1 in four innings.

Drew Bridges and Michael Fincher kicked off the hit parade with backto back singles with one out in the top of the first inning. Chandler Ray reached on an error to load the bases.

Alex Wilson hit a ground ball that was too hot for the second baseman to handle and plated Bridges, the first run of the season for the Warriors. Austin Boyd drove in Fincher and Ray with a single to left field.

Wilson stole third base and scored when the throw got away from the third baseman. Beau Clenney singled to left and Alan Mock reached on an infield single to load the bases again for the Warriors.

Danny Doster singled to left to plate Boyd and Clenney. Miles Lee broke out the big stick and hit a towering 3-run homer to right center putting SGA up 9-0 and there was still only one out in the inning.

Bridges followed with a double to left field. Fincher and Wilson reached on errors. Then Austin Boyd put a final exclamation point on the inning with a rocket blast over the center field fence to put SGA up 13-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, Drew Bridges drilled a monster 3-run shot over the center field fence to put SGA up 16-0.

Beau Clenney started on the mound for the Warriors. Clenney pitched the complete game giving up one run on three hits with two walks while striking out three batters. The Warriors played good defense behind Clenney committing only one error.

Drew Bridges led the Warriors at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, a homerun, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Austin Boyd went 2-for-3 with a homerun, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Miles Lee went 1-for-2 with two walks, a homerun, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

The Warriors have a double header Thursday in Dothan against Northside Methodist starting at 3 p.m. and will have their home opener at SGA Friday against Westwood with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
