Closing date nears

USDA's Farm Service Agency reminds farmers of the Feb. 28 sales closing date for crop insurance. This sales closing date is applicable to the following spring-planted crops in Georgia: corn, cotton, grain sorghum, peanuts and soybeans.

The sales closing date is the last date to purchase a new policy, to change the type of policy or to change the level of coverage for an existing policy.

The recent rise in some commodity prices increases the amount of protection available under crop insurance policies; however, it also increases the premium for those policies. Local crop insurance agents are the best source for coverage and premium information.

Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. Contact a local Multi-Peril Crop Insurance agent to learn additional program details.

A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers or on the Risk Management Agency website at http://www.rma. usda.gov/tools/agents/.
