Smith-Coggins wedding vows exchanged
Parents of the bride are Linda K. Smith of Blakely and the late David W. Smith. Laura is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Woodie King of Donalsonville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Earnest L. Smith of Cordele. Zada Webb of Gainesville, Ga., great aunt of the bride, was seated as Laura's honorary grandmother. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson of Goshen, Ala., and Ronald Coggins of Luverne, Ala. Jason is the grandson of Ruby Bush and the late Marvin Bush and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Coggins, all of Luverne, Ala. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Matthew T. Smith of Centennial, Co. Maids of honor were Shelley Huebner of Powder Springs, Ga., and Mallory Smith of Savannah, both sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids included Jackie Anglin of Kennesaw, Ga., Emily Rolling of Troy, Ala., and Lindsey Schock of Mobile, Ala. Flower girls were Meg Houston and Grace Houston of Blakely. Honorary bridesmaids included Sesame Robinson and Lisa McLaughlin both of Donalsonville and Andrea Tarrant of Vista, Calif. Ronald Coggins served as his son's best man. Groomsmen were Mark Coggins of Luverne, Ala., brother of the groom, Hunter Rolling of Troy, Ala., Daryl Richburg of Atlanta and Justin Jayroe of Luverne, Ala. Ushers were Andrew Bush of Montgomery, Ala., and Joshua Coggins of Hartford, Ala., cousins of the groom. Ringbearer was Ian Coggins, nephew of the groom. The bride wore an ivory satin A-line gown with an overlay of lace adorned with pearls and crystals that formed into a chapel train. Her tiara was adorned with pearls and crystals and attached to the beautiful ivory veil made by Cheryl Helton, friend of the bride. The bride's flowers were large white calla lilies bound with ivory ribbon. The bride wore pearls and earrings, and a blue garter, all belonging to her mother. A sixpence that was brought from England by her father was placed in her shoe and she carried a handkerchief that belonged to her Nana, the late Christine King. The bridesmaids wore apple-red satin strapless gowns that formed a long train over the skirt. They each carried a bouquet of small white calla lilies bound with ivory ribbon The honorary bridesmaids wore black dresses and carried a red calla lily bound with the ivory ribbon. The flower girls wore ivory gowns with satin sashes that tied into bows in the back and they each carried ivory satin baskets with rose petals. The mother of the bride chose a black crepe beaded dress with a bolero jacket The mother of the groom wore a black crepe dress with a beaded full-length jacket. Both carried red calla lilies. Zada Webb, great aunt of the bride, and Ruby Bush, grandmother of the groom, wore a corsage of small white calla lilies. Jan Barron directed the wedding, assisted by Marcile Clarke, both friends of the bride. Haley McClendon, Kendyl Carver, Sydney Redding and Kelsey Davis presented each guest with a wedding program as they entered the church. Donna Scarborough, close friend of the bride, and Mallory Smith, sister of the bride, were in charge of decorating the alter and family pews. Ivory bows, white calla lilies and wrought iron candelabras were used to enhance the beauty of the sanctuary. The beautiful music was provided by Elizabeth Darden, organist, and Gene Houston, pianist and cousin of the bride. Vocalist was Mark Clark who sang "O, Holy Night" before the ceremony and "Let There Be Peace On Earth" as the mothers were seated. A recording of "The Lord's Prayer" sung by the late David W. Smith, the bride's father, was played during the prayer. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Blakely Town & Country Club. Music and entertainment was provided by M.C. Showcase from Troy, Ala. Tammy Cannon directed the reception. Marcile Clarke, Beth Davidson, Camille Harvin, Joy Redding and Ginger Watson greeted and assisted the guests as they arrived. Jan McClemore and staff catered the reception. Ashley Crozier, Dana Scarborough, Rebecca King and Tonya Young served the punch. Margaret Winkler and Beth Crozier served the Auburn University groom's cake made by the groom's mother. Christina Odom and Susan McClendon served the beautiful wedding cake made by Ginger Cushing. Saylor Odom, Carsyn Carver and Katy Lyn Carver presented mints to each guest during the evening and sparklers when the bride and groom departed for a wedding trip in the mountains of Tennessee. The couple has made their home in Troy, Ala. After the rehearsal, Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson hosted a delicious dinner in the social hall of the First United Methodist Church. The wedding party, family and friends were served a wonderful meal prepared by Earlene Easom and staff of Magnolias on Main. Linda Tiner and Gail Whalen served snacks and coke to the wedding party in the church's kitchen before the ceremony. Earlene Easom and Magnolias on Main provided the delicious food. Pre-Nuptial Parties Laura Smith and Jason Coggins were honored with an Auburn-Georgia engagement party. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Rolling hosted the party at "The Front Porch" in Troy, Ala., Aug. 25. Lynn Carver, Marcile Clarke, Cathy Davis, Julie Childress, Sherry Middleton, Beth Wasdin and Lindsey Still honored Laura with a linen/kitchen shower Nov. 3 at the lovely home of Mrs. Still. Laura and Jason were honored with a home and garden cookout at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Braswell Nov. 3. Other hosts included Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Scarborough, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tedder, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tiner and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wright. On Sunday, Nov. 4, Laura was honored with a miscellaneous tea shower at First United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Margaret Arnold, Irene Bush, Bebe Clark, Liz Darden, Duane Davis, Priscilla Davis, Karen Everson, Debbie Holley, Diane James, Susan Justice, Ann Lewis, Susan McClendon, Charlotte Moore, Evelyn Powell, Sibbie Smith and Nancy Yelverton. On Nov. 10, the day of the Georgia-Auburn game, Laura and Jason were honored with a "house-divided" tailgating party. Guests enjoyed fun, food and rivalry. Shelley Huebner and Walker Hickerson hosted the party at their home in Powder Springs, Ga. Dianne Coggins and Debi Coggins honored Jason and Laura with a tool and gadget brunch Nov. 17 at the Dry Creek Campground in Luverne, Ala. On Sunday, Nov. 18 Laura was honored with a bridal shower in the fellowship hall of the Luverne Church of Christ in Luverne, Ala. The shower was hosted by the ladies of the church. Beth Davidson, Ivey Gay, Jackie Anglin and Pam Cleveland honored Laura with a Christmas shower. The shower was Saturday, Nov. 24 at the beautiful home of Mrs. Cleveland.
A bridesmaid brunch was held Dec. 15 at the lovely home of Jean Hall. Other hostesses were Tammy Cannon, Beth Crozier, Sharon Hall, Camille Harvin, Kathryn Pace, Joy Redding, Donna Scarborough and Ginger Watson.
