New subscription rates include online access A new subscription rate plan for the Early County News will go into effect March 1, marking the first rate increase in five years. "Faced with rising prices and a stressed local economy, we've bitten the bullet like a wounded cowboy in an old western movie the past several years," says publisher Billy Fleming. "In announcing the new rates, we take the opportunity to remind our subscribers that the only newspaper in the world dedicated to news about your family, friends and community - the Early County News - is being delivered to your home or office." Having the newspaper delivered to their homes via mail, subscribers receive several additional value-added benefits. Local merchants keep readers informed about what to buy and where to buy, helping churn the local economy. Subscribers can buy and sell FREE in the classifieds, enjoy a TV schedule and the American Profile magazine. Beginning March 1 the mail subscriptions will also be more valuable than ever. Subscribers will automatically qualify for FREE online subscription to www.earlycountynews. com. There is no longer a $10 upcharge. "We encourage our readers to visit our website and become interactive readers by commenting on news articles and issues facing our community with the new reader comment feature on the website," Fleming says. "Blogging, they call it. And it will arrive on our website beginning with the Feb. 27 issue." If you are a print subscriber to the Early County News the only thing you have to do to get your FREE online subscription started is send us an email message including the password you want to use to login. Your email address will be your user name. Be sure to include subscriber name and ID number found in top left corner of the mailing label on your paper. We continue to add new features to our website. Most recently, the local school newspapers are now featured on our website. You can now read Early County High's school paper, The Paw Print, by clicking on the "Paw Print" button. Likewise, click on "Warriors' Word" and you can read Southwest Georgia Academy's The Warriors' Word. Both are great school papers, products of some very good students! Another new feature of the website is a link to the American Profile magazine website. There you will find all of the features, articles, events and recipes found in the magazine each week, and more! While rising costs across the board - gas, utilities, insurance, printing and postage - are driving prices up, it's increased postage cost most responsible for the increased out-ofarea rates. Due to the rising postage cost of "out-of-area" papers delivered via mail, and the increased delivery problems facing newspapers across the nation, "out-of-area" subscribers are now offered a reduced "online only" subscription.
"This is the first time we've tried to drive readers from the print edition to the website," says Fleming. "But, for some out-of-area readers it has reached the point where that is the best option for both the reader and the newspaper."
