SGA seniors finish season with a win
The fans were treated to two exciting basketball games. The Lady Warriors lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Trojans from Fullington Academy 46-44. The Warriors ended the night with a thrilling 52-46 win over the Trojans. The Lady Warriors' game with Fullington was close from start to finish. SGA led 13-11 after one quarter and 22-18 at the half. Fullington outscored SGA 14-9 in the third quarter to take a 32-31 lead. Fullington extended their lead early in the fourth quarter, but Kyndal Andrews drained a few 3- pointers to put the Lady Warriors right back in the game. The game went back and forth late in the fourth quarter, but Fullington came away with a hard fought victory. Kyndal Andrews and Kristi Williams led the Lady Warriors offensively with 20 and 17 points respectively. Ashley Tedder added five and Jodi Harris two points. In the boys' game, the Warriors jumped out to an early lead. Drew Bridges and Beau Clenney each hit a couple of 3-pointers to help SGA run out to a 17-11 first quarter lead. Bridges hit a couple more 3-pointers and Michael Fincher added seven points in the second quarter as SGA extended their lead to 30-22 at the half. In the second half, Fullington would cut SGA's lead down to a couple of points, but the Warriors would answer back and push their lead back up to six or eight points. SGA led 42-35 after three quarters and held the Trojans off in the fourth quarter to win, 52-46. Drew Bridges led the Warriors hitting six 3-pointers in scoring a game high 20 points. Michael Fincher and Beau Clenney were both in double figures as well with 13 and 10 points. Jason Dean added seven and Blake Shepard two points. It is an unusual coincidence but, on Senior Night, only SGA's seniors broke into the scoring column for the Warriors. On Feb. 5, SGA dropped a couple of games to Brookwood. The Lady Warriors made a strong fourth quarter comeback attempt but fell a little short in losing a hard fought game to Brookwood, 33-29. The Warriors fell behind early and were never really in the game against Brookwood as they routed the Warriors 70-28.
The book is closed on the regular season for SGA. Both teams finished in fourth place in the region standings and will play in the opening round of the region tournament against Valwood in elimination games Tuesday night at Andrew College in Cuthbert. The Lady Warriors will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the Warriors at 7 p.m.
