How we voted! They called it Super Tuesday last week when voters across Georgia and 23 other states cast their votes in the Presidential Preference Primaries. Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee were the winners in Georgia's Feb. 5 Presidential Preference Primaries. Early County split with state voters in the Republican primary giving McCain the nod with 47.4 percent of the votes. Huckabee was second with 38.6 percent followed by Romney with 11 percent. Obama receive 60.2 percent of the votes in Early County to Clinton's 35.9 percent. There was a 30.17 percent turnout in Early County with 2,115 of the county's 7,011 registered voters casting ballots. See complete Early Co. results on page 3 Statewide, Obama received 67 percent (700,366) of the votes in the Democratic primary to Clinton's 31 percent (328,129). Edwards trailed with just 2 percent (17,990). The Republican primary was much closer statewide with Huckabee receiving 34 percent (326, 069) of the votes. McCain was second with 32 percent (303,639) and Romney followed with 30 percent (289,737) of the vote. Voter turnout in last week's presidential preference primary set a record in the state with 44 percent of active registered voters casting ballots. More than 2 million Georgians voted, with 1,054,831 Democratic ballots cast, compared to 975,770 Republican ballots. Secretary of State Karen Handel on Tuesday called the overall turnout "historic."
