More than 100 outstanding high school seniors were recently invited to attend Georgia Southern University's third annual Southern Scholars Showcase at its main campus in Statesboro.

Chris Sumner, a senior at Early County High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Sumner of Blakely, attended the showcase.

"Each year Georgia Southern University invites outstanding high school seniors from all over the Southeast to attend this by-invitation-only event," said Susan Davies, director of admissions at Georgia Southern University. "As one of the top choices for HOPE scholars, Georgia Southern continues to attract top students who not only value personal attention, but the amenities and benefits of a research institution."

To be invited, students must score a minimum of 1300 on the SAT, or a 20 on the ACT, with a strong academic average in high school courses. During the showcase, students are given direct access to student organizations, academic and student service offerings, and also interview for a variety of Georgia Southern University academic scholarships.
