Warriors sweep Georgia Christian School
The Lady Warriors started strong but ran into foul trouble. SGA led 11-4 after one quarter but the Lady Generals came storming back to make it a 17-16 game at the half. The teams went to the fourth quarter with the game tied 25-25. The Lady Warriors put GCS away in the fourth quarter by outscoring them 24-11. Lady Warrior senior Ashley Tedder led the offensive onslaught and sealed the win by sinking 7-of-8 free throws in the final minutes. Tedder led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 19 points. Kristi Williams added 10 points, Kyndal Andrews 7, Ansley Stewart 6, Jodi Harris, Lindsay Buckhalter and Heather Grebel 2 points each. The boys' game was a close one from start to finish. SGA held an 11-9 lead after one quarter. With the SGA starters picking up fouls, the SGA B-team played a good bit in the first half and did a good job of keeping the Warriors in the game. SGA went into halftime down only 24-20. The Warriors took the lead back in the third quarter by scoring 14 points and holding the Generals to only 7 points. Leading 34-31 to start the fourth quarter, the Warriors maintained the lead for the rest of the game. SGA outscored GCS 17-12 in the final quarter. Michael Fincher hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to secure the Warriors victory. The Warriors had a very balanced offensive attack with four players in double figures. Jason Dean was high scorer with 11 points while Drew Bridges, Michael Fincher and Beau Clenney had 10 points each. Miles Lee, Blake Shepard, Andrew Stone and Taylor Arnold each had 2 points and Danny Doster 1 point. In other action earlier in the week, Randolph Southern took two games from SGA Tuesday, Jan. 8. The Lady Patriots defeated the Lady Warriors 49-29. Kristi Williams led the Lady Warriors, scoring 15 points in a losing effort. The Patriots defeated the Warriors 54-42 in a close game. The game was tied about midway through the fourth quarter, but RSS got ahead and hit 13-of-17 free throws to pull away late in the game when the Warriors were forced to foul. Blake Shepard had an outstanding game for the Warriors leading them in scoring with 16 points. SGA also dropped a couple of games to a couple outstanding Tiftarea teams Friday, January 11. The Lady Warriors played an outstanding first half and led 24-23 at the half, but the Lady Panthers blew the game open in the second half and defeated SGA 67- 46. Kristi Williams had another big night for SGA scoring 23 points and Lindsay Buckhalter had a big night dropping 14 points. In the boys' game, the Warriors were not able to slow down the potent Panther offense as they outscored SGA 23-10 in the first quarter on their way to defeating the Warriors 78- 47. Drew Bridges came off the bench to lead the Warriors in scoring again with 12 points and Miles Lee was also in double figures with 10 points. SGA travels to Bainbridge to play Grace Christian Thursday and is at home for a big region game with Valwood Friday night.
