BC students aid film industry

With the growth of the film industry in southwest Georgia, Bainbridge College serves an integral part in training personnel and providing support in a number of fields, including through its electronics program at the BC Early County Site.

For the filming of The Lena Baker Story, now in the post-production phase and expected to be released this spring, the electronics program at BCEC was asked to design and build an electrical distribution and lighting control panel.

"The panel was a tool that assisted film crews in building sets for the movie," said Claude Bell, instructor of the BCEC electronics technology program.

His students designed, fabricated and wired the control panel from specifications given to them by Jocara-Micheaux Studios in Colquitt during the summer term. They presented their finished product to Ralph Wilcox, who heads Jocara- Micheaux Film Studios and is BC instructor of the entertainment technology program.

The BCEC Electronics Program students, who were in the industrial instrumentation class, were also given an opportunity to work as gaffer (electrician) apprentices during the filming of the movie, Bell said.
