Bob Boney Sr. Mayor Robert S. "Bob" Boney Sr., 81, of Leesburg died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Boney, a native of China Hill, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a state revenue agent from 1956 to 1966 and served as warden of Lee State Prison from 1966 to 1986. He was first elected as mayor of the City of Leesburg in 1990 and served until the time of his death. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Chehaw Lodge #701 F&AM, Hasan Shrine Center and Leesburg Shrine Club. Mr. Boney was past president of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and the Georgia Prison Warden Association. His career in public service was made a part of the Congressional Record of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Wells Boney. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Busch and husband Bill of Leesburg; two sons, Grady Bolton and wife Lane of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert Stephen Boney Jr. and wife Amy of Leesburg; eight grandchildren, Teresa Dedge, Stacy Horne, Tracy Cook III, Sherry Swaney, Stacy Brabston, Dusty Hammonds, James Boney and Olivia Boney; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Leesburg United Methodist Church with Masonic Rites. The Rev. Mike Lyons officiated. Interment followed at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in China Hill, Ga.
