Southwest Georgia was hit with some bad news earlier this month when Cooper Tire & Rubber Company officials announced the tire plant located on Sylvester Road would be closed. Clarence Cashwell Jr., 81, of Hurtsboro, Ala., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Cashwell was born in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Aug. 25, 1927, to the late H.C. Cashwell Sr. and Emma Mae Tyson Cashwell. He was a graduate of Jakin High School and was involved in farming, the furniture business and was employed by Carroll Lumber Company for many years. More...
