Archbold offers health fair just for women The National Women's Health Information Center reports that women in Georgia rank high in rates of death due to heart disease, stroke, influenza and pneumonia. Further, Georgia has some of the highest rates of high blood pressure, obesity and very little physical activity. Getting regular check ups, preventive screening tests and immunizations are among the most important actions women can take to better their health. Archbold Memorial Hospital will offer a Women's Health Fair in the Williams Auditorium of the East Tower in Thomasville Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Health screening for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and BMI will be offered at the health fair. Radiologist Jacqueline Smith, M.D., will speak about traditional mammography and the new advantages of digital mammography. Archbold Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator Beth Lowe will be on hand for nutritional information along with a massage therapist from Integrative Medicine who will perform chair massages. Also, a representative from the YMCA and Body & Soul will be available for fitness guidelines. For more information on the Women's Health Fair or to pre-register, please call 228-2743. |
