Scholarships awarded in gerontology
      The Gerontology Institute at Georgia State University has announced the winners of the 2008 Rice/Early County Scholarship, annually awarded to exceptional high school seniors from Early County who expect to attend Georgia State University.

Godwin selected by NSHSS
      Andrea Jena' Godwin of Jakin has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Students. The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who achieved superior academic excellence. The announcement was made by NSHSS founder and chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prize.

Shaw visits WDHN
      Early County FFA member Laura Shaw spent an entire day at WDHN Channel 18 in Dothan Monday, June 9. The purpose of her visit was to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a real television studio. She not only met the news director, but also many of the news anchors and producers, as well as the vice president and general manager.

BECRD All-Star tournaments begin
      The Blakely-Early County Recreation Department will host two All-Star tournaments this year at Ray Knight Sportsplex. The first, for 12-andunder baseball, will take place June 16-20.
