Board of Education meeting

The Early County Board of Education met Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 at the Early County Middle School.

Items on the agenda included consideration of the board's position on the tax reform issue proposed by Speaker Richardson. The board tabled the matter.

The board also tabled the matter of fencing of school property adjacent to Blakely Corners Shopping Center. The item will be readdressed after construction of the gym is complete.

A request for purchase of computers and accessories for Early County Learning and Opportunity Academy (alternative school) was approved for a total of $19,457. The purchase is funded through SPLOST.

2008 meeting dates were set with all board meetings scheduled at 5:30 p.m. at the middle school. The next meeting is Jan. 8. Other meeting dates include Feb. 12, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9. Meeting dates may change with school breaks and holidays.

Resignations were accepted for Remika Christian and LaSheena Davis, both Early Reading First staff members.

Recommendations approved include Keisha Isom replacing Mia Pittman as high school pep squad sponsor; Steve Crocker, extended day second semester; Vicki Kornegay, middle school tutorial program; and Crystal Crozier, Ashley Murdock and JoDel Perryman for Early Reading First.
