FFA competes in nursery, landscaping

The Early County FFA nursery and landscape team recently competed in the Area 5 FFA nursery and landscape career development event. The event took place at ABAC in Tifton Thursday, Dec. 7.

The nursery and landscape career development event allows students to demonstrate their knowledge in plant materials, plant disorders, cultural practices, design and construction, supplies and equipment, safety, interpersonal relations, marketing and records and reports. The senior team placed fourth out of 10 teams. Team members include Heath Busby, Justin Wilkerson, Anton Marino and Tasha Buckhalter. Alternates were Cody Aycock, Patrick White and Borrk Lewis.

The junior team also placed fourth out of 16 teams. Junior team members were Cassie Sasnett, LeVander Thomas and Daniel Aaron Harrell.

Students had to compete in various events including plant identification, plant disorders identification, tool identification, general knowledge test, a problem solving practicum and landscape practicum. To prepare for this contest, students began practicing a month in advanced. Practices were every Monday and Wednesday after school with Mrs. Simmons. Two workshops were scheduled to allow students to practice the different events. Simmons held a chapter contest to determine the members of the senior team.
