Peace named GRPA district commissioner

Chris Peace
The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association held its annual conference at Jekyll Island on Nov. 6-8. Chris Peace was sworn in as district commissioner for the third district during an installation ceremony at the event.

The district commissioner is elected from recreational professionals throughout the district and serves a two-year term.

Presiding over district meetings, appointing committees and implementing policies are a few of the commissioner's duties. The commissioner is charged with the responsibility of interpreting the philosophy of the profession to his district and serves as a direct communication link between the Board of Trustees of Georgia Recreation and Parks Association and the district membership.

"It has been my goal to remain involved in both GRPA and our local district throughout my career in Blakely. I look forward to serving Blakely and Southwest Georgia in this position. It is my hope to help develop better communication and to foster positive relations between the agencies of the third district during my term," stated Peace.

Chris Peace is a native of Blakely and has worked at Blakely-Early County Recreation Department since 1995 and was named director in 2000. Blakely- Early County Recreation Department was recently named Agency of the Year for the third district for 2007.
