Dec. 4, 1997

LATE LAST Wednesday afternoon, a huge crane lifted a 13,000 pound raw material storage bin to the top of a pilot manufacturing plant at Scientific Ag Industries, taking construction one step closer to completion.

THE FOURTH annual Christmas on the Square promises to be the best yet. The square will be full of over 60 arts and crafts vendors, an antique car show and 20 food vendors.

TROY STATE University student Christine Lee Sheffield of Blakely has been selected for the 1997 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

APRIL WILLIAMS, a seventh grader at Early County Middle School, was honored at a banquet in Atlanta Thursday, Oct. 5. April was selected as a first place winner in the State Fire Safety Essay Contest. April is the daughter of Al and Debra Williams of Bluffton.

Dec. 2, 1982

EMORY C. Durham of Rt. 2, Bluffton, was named the 1982 Man of the Year in Soil and Water Conservation in Early County by the Flint River Soil and Water Conservation Board of Supervisors. Durham was honored at ceremonies held Nov. 9, in Albany.

MR. AND MRS. Rudolph Valentino Coffield Jr. announces, the birth of a daughter, Kawanis Rene', on Nov. 9, 1982, at the U.S. Naval Regional Medical Center, Camp Lester Okinawa, Japan.

MR. AND MRS. Lonnie James of Route 3, Blakely, spent Saturday, Nov. 27, in Meigs, Ga., with their sons, Paul and Lonnie James Jr. Both boys are doing fine. 50 YEARS AGO

B. HERRING, Inc., Blakely's newest business establishment, is scheduled to officially open for business Friday morning, Bernard Herring announces.

AL CRAFT, young Blakely man, was ordained to the ministry at an impressive service at the Blakely Baptist Church, Sunday night.

MR. AND MRS. Lester Cox, of this city, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Cynthia Cox, to Sherman B. Nichols of Albany.

CHARLES COSBY, of Southern Tech, Chamblee, spent the holidays with his mother, Mrs. Mavis Cosby.

MR. AND MRS. Dick Alexander and children, of Athens, were guests the past weekend of Mr. and Mrs.W.R. Alexander.

MRS. CARROLL Davis, of Albany, spent Thanksgiving Day here with relatives.

MR. AND MRS. Winton Woodard, of Waycross, visited relatives here during the holidays.

MR. AND MRS. Billy Joe Jordan and children, of Nashville, Tenn., spent the Thanksgiving holidays here with Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Jordan.

MR. AND MRS. W.L. Mosely observed their 30th wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday.

PRESIDENT-Elect Franklin D. Roosevelt is down at Warm Springs resting in his Georgia resort.

W.F. LAWRENCE, Dick Alexander and Gordon Slappey have returned to their studies at Middle Georgia College, Cochran, after spending the Thanksgiving holidays at home.

DR. R.L. Hammack and son, Mr. Pryor Hammack, of Kennedy, Texas, have been guests of relatives here for several days.

MRS. LEONA Hamlet left last week for her home in Orlando, Fla., after a visit to Mrs. C.A. Grubbs.

MRS. CLARA Butler, Miss Mattie Butler and Mrs. John G. Butler motored down to Panama City and spent Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hamil.

MR. C.J. Armstrong has returned from several weeks' stay with relatives in Chicago.

MRS. A.J. Hammack and Mr. Willie Joe Hammack spent several days in Atlanta the past week.

Nov. 30, 1882 THE YOUNG folks had a dance at the court house on last Thursday night.

DR. T.M. Howard left on a business trip to Appalachicola, Fla., on Wednesday last.

MR. S. Manual's business has so increased as to compel him to add on another room to his storehouse.
