Hursteen Rollins Veteran Hursteen West Rollins, 82, of Blakely died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at his home following a long illness. His funeral service was Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Blakely, where he had been a deacon for over 40 years. Interment followed at Sowhatchee Cemetery with Rev. Roy Rogers and Rev. Jimmy Hooks officiating. The celebration of life concluded with the presentation of the American flag and taps by U.S. Navy personnel. Mr. Rollins was born in Early County Jan. 20, 1925. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Phillipines and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell Furman Rollins and Violetta "Bobbie" Rollins Reeves; and a sister, Mary Helen Bell. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Miriam Hartley Rollins; a daughter, Brenda Jordan and husband Jimmy of Geneva; a son, Maxwell Rollins and wife Donna of Summerville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Robert Rollins of Summerville, S.C.; and an uncle, Lawrence Rollins of Columbus. Serving as active pallbearers were Terry Ferguson, James Weaver, Ronnie Willis, Mike Ellis, Steve Ellis, Smiley Bush and Buddy Lucas. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Milton Anderson, Ralph Ellis, David Still, Bobby Davis, Cyril English, John Lewis Still, Buddy Ellis, Pete Odum, Arthur Brackin, Bob Roberts and members of the Blakely American Legion and the VFW. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Free Will Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 8, Eldridge, AL 35554 or to your favorite charity.
Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
