Bobcats take homecoming victory over Albany
By Jay Palmer Sports Writer

The Albany High defense takes down a Bobcat on the move in Friday night's homecoming game. The Indians proved to be no match for the Cats as Early County won 47-0 at Standifer Field.
The most unexpected thing that happened Friday night was the large fireworks display that took place before the game. However, the fireworks display that the Early County Bobcats put on during the game was exactly what the large homecoming crowd expected. The Albany Indians were no match for the Bobcats as Early County rolled to a 47-0 win at Standifer Field. With the win the Bobcats go to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in region 1- AA. Albany is 0-9 and 0-7.

After a slow start that put up only 6 points in the opening quarter, Early County blew the game open with 21 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 27-0 halftime lead. The Bobcats' first score came on a Mike Perry (10/17/270/2 touchdowns) 10 yard run at the 6:53 mark of the opening quarter. The point after was no good.

The second quarter scoring barrage started with an 8-play, 63-yard drive that ended with Perry hitting Vintavious Stovall with a 7- yard touchdown pass at the 11:10 mark of the first half. The try for two points failed and the score remained 12- 0. The key play on the drive was a 41-yard pass to Di'onis Bryant, who ended the night catching 8 passes for 208 yards, which gave the Bobcats a first down at the Indian 14-yard line.

After forcing an Indian punt, Early County drove 50 yards in 7 plays to make the score 20-0 at the 6:27 mark of the second quarter. Bryant had another key catch on the march, an 18- yarder that gave the Bobcats a first down at the Indian 11-yard line. Calvin Hicks scored from 2 yards out 2 plays later. Perry then ran in the 2-point conversion.

The Bobcats' final score of the first half came on a 5- play 74-yard drive that again featured a huge play from Bryant. The senior set up Neko Wimberley's 4-yard run with a 56-yard reception that gave Early County a first down at the Albany 4- yard line. The extra point missed its mark but the Bobcats lead 26 -0 with 2:56 left to play in the first half.

Early County scored on the first play of the second half to extend their lead. Perry hit Sean Williams with a short pass across the middle and the junior outran the Indian secondary for a 61-yard touchdown at the 11:47 mark of the third period. Culpepper added the extra point to make the score 34-0 Bobcats.

Coach Woolf then allowed the younger Bobcats to get some valuable playing time and they picked up where there teammates left off. Freshman quarterback T.J. Allen led Early County on two more scoring drives in the final minutes of the game.

The first one was a 10- play, 90-yard march that ended with Stovall catching another 7-yard touchdown pass at the 1:22 mark of the third quarter and the final tally of the night, a 2-yard run that he took in himself at the 6:15 mark of the final quarter. Culpepper made both his extra point kicks to make the final 47-0.

Early travels to Thomasville to take on the Bulldogs this Friday night. A win coupled with a Fitzgerald loss would give the Bobcats the region 1-AA championship. If both teams win, there would be a three way tie for the region championship and the Hurri-canes would be seeded number 1 with the Bobcats seeded number 2.
