'Pumpkins on the Square' features costume and pumpkin contests

This pumpkin won Tree Surgeons, Inc. first place in the business category of the pumpkin contest.
Court Square was overtaken by ghosts, mummies, princesses and a wide variety of animals Tuesday Oct. 30 for Pumpkins on the Square.

Fifty-nine children participated in the annual event sponsored by Blakely Hometown. Prizes were awarded for first, second and third places in the costume contest for three age divisions.

The winner for the zero to three age group was hatching chick, Weston Lee. Second place was Eli Enfinger as Bam Bam from the Flintstones and third was clown, Carley Miles Fenn.

Daniel Edison's Spiderman costume ranked first in the four to seven division. Hannah Grace Temples as Strawberry Shortcake Princess was second with up-and-coming veterinarian Carol Cockrum third.

The eight and up age division winner was Dark Watch, Trey Davis; second place, angel, Victoria Nolan; and third place, Dorothy, Savannah Hall.

Prizes were also awarded in the pumpkin decorating and carving contest. Tree Surgeons, Inc. won the business category with the Blakely-Early County Recreation Department placing second.

Individual winners were Marlena and Leila Collins with Betsy Lucas coming in second.
