Why'd my son have to die?
A mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die in Iraq?" A mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die in Saudi Arabia?" A mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die in Kuwait?" Another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die in Vietnam?" Another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die in Korea?" Another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die on Iwo Jima?" Another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die on a battlefield in France?" Yet another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?" And yet another mother asked the President... "Why did my son have to die on a frozen field near Valley Forge?" Then, long, long ago, a mother asked... "Heavenly Father, why did my Son have to die on a cross outside of Jerusalem?' The answer was the same each time... "So that others may have life, and dwell in peace, happiness, and freedom." *********** Mr. Charlie Davis recently asked me to write the story on the front page for him to have published in his division newsletter. While too many like him are gone now, there are still a few WWII veterans with stories to tell - if the right people ask them.
If you are a WWII veteran reading this with a story to tell and nobody asks. Call me. I'll cherish every minute you're willing to share with me!
