Bobcats roll Randolph
By Jay Palmer Sports Writer

The Early County defense held Randolph-Clay to 14 points in Friday night's victory. The Bobcats will host Albany for homecoming this week.
Michael Perry threw for 273 yards and 5 touchdowns to lead the Early County Bobcats to a 36-14 win over Randolph-Clay Friday night in Coleman. The Bobcats are now 7-1 overall and 5-1 in region 1-AA. The Red Devils fell to 5-3 and 3-3.

The Bobcats opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Perry hit Tracy Anthony with 24-yard touchdown pass at the 6:23 mark. Mark Culpepper added the extra point to make the score 7-0.

The score remained that way until late in the first half. After the Early defense stopped Randolph on downs at mid-field, Perry hit Shawn Williams with a short pass and the junior made a great move and outraced the Red Devil secondary for a 49-yard touchdown at the 3:39 mark of the first half.

Dion'is Bryant threw to Calvin Hicks for the two point conversion to make the score 15-0 at the half.

Early County extended their lead the second time they had the football in the second half. Again the defense gave the Bobcats great field position at the Red Devil 38-yard line. After Hicks ran for 5 yards on first down, Perry hit Williams with a 33-yard touchdown pass and Culpepper made the point after to give Early County a 22-0 lead at the 6:46 mark of the third quarter.

The Red Devils closed the gap to 22-8 with a 78-yard touchdown pass and two point conversion at the 2:18 mark of the third quarter. But the Bobcats put all thoughts of a comeback to rest by scoring the next two times they had the football.

Perry capped a 5-play, 60- yard drive by hitting Bryant with a 36-yard touchdown pass at the 9:30 mark of the final period and then found Bryant again for a 50-yard touchdown pass at the 6:57 mark of the fourth quarter. Culpepper added both extra points to give Early County a 36-7 lead.

Randolph did add a late touchdown to make the final 36-14.

The Bobcats host winless Albany Friday for homecoming 2007. Kickoff is at 7:30 P.M.
