City election Tuesday Don't forget your photo ID

Cooper
A headline in another Georgia newspaper this week reads: Slim ballot. Vote anyway! The same can be said here as there will be only one contested race on the ballot at next week's city election Tuesday, Nov. 6.

That race is between incumbent councilman Andy Smith and challenger Ben Cooper for the District 2 Post 2 seat. Smith, an assistant vice-president at the Bank of Early, will be seeking re-election to a second term on the council. Cooper, a retired Georgia-Pacific employee, will be seeking his first term on the council.

Mayor Ric Hall and councilman Torre Mills were unopposed for re-election to their posts. Councilmen Hutchins and Charles Middleton will be up for re-election in 2009.

The polls will be located in the fire station on Magnolia Street and will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters are reminded to bring their photo IDs to the polls. Georgia's law requiring photo identification at the polls is in effect for next week's election.

Voters casting their ballots in person are required to show one of the following forms of photo ID:

Smith
• Georgia driver's license, even if expired; • Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free voter ID

card issued by the county registrar or Georgia Department of Driver Services;

• valid U.S. passport;

• valid employee photo ID from any entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state;

• valid military photo ID;

• valid tribal photo ID.

If you do not have one of these forms of identification, you can receive a free Georgia Voter Identification Card at the Early County Board of Registrars at 15157 River Street in Blakely.

You can also visit the Georgia Department of Driver Services Customer Service Center from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday in Colquitt.
