Faith requires obedience and works
Let the Bible Speak
Robert Argersinger, Hentown Church of Christ

The Bible gives us a definition of faith. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

Faith as used in the Bible, is a comprehensive word. Faith is the body of truth given to the human race. (Jude 3) Faith is also an individual's response to the will of God for salvation as we saw in Hebrews 11:1.

Personal faith is made up of several important elements. Let us look at some of these important elements.

Faith has an object and has substance. Faith is not blind for it sees its object which is Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 12:2) Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith endured the cross making the supreme sacrifice for our sins.

Jesus is the central object of the Christian's life. Faith also gives substance which entails confidence in the testimony of God's word, and evidence that produces a sure conviction of belief and trust (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Faith manifests itself in obedience, having perseverance (1 Peter 1:6-9). Faith is dead without obedience, or works. (James 2:17). One is not saved by faith only. (James 2:24). Obedience to the commands of God is faith in action (John 14:15). Faith provokes steadfastness underlined by a love for God. (2 Timothy 1:13). A proper love for God, Christ, our fellow man, and ourselves requires a faith that obeys the will of God. Please obey the plan of salvation today. (Romans 10:17; Romans 10:9-10; Luke 13:5; Acts 8:37; Acts 2:38).
