Donald Yates Engineer

Dorne Arnold Yates, of Cinnaminson, N.J., died Sept. 21, 2007. He was born in Miller County, Ga., Oct. 6, 1925, to James Suwannee and Beulah (Johnson) Yates. His maternal grandparents were William Wyatt and Anna (Justice) Johnson. His paternal grandparents were David Manning and Lula (Swan) Yates. His stepmother was Gladys (Cosby) Yates.

Dorne grew up at Cedar Springs and Lucile, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, stepmother, wife, Lorraine (Peterson) Yates and a sister, Margie (Yates) Aiola.

Survivors are sons, Edward, Eric, David and Steven Yates; granddaughters, Carolyn Guzzo and Laura Yates; great-grandson, Frank Guzzo; sisters, Margarette (Olive) Malone and Diane Samansky; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorne served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II and the Korean Conflict on the Liberty Ships. He was an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve; he also was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Dorne was a retired licensed Chief Engineer of Steam, Motor or Gas Turbine Vessels of any horsepower for McAllister Towing; and earlier for Independent Pier Company on the tugboat, Trojan. Dorne was an avid reader of both American and English history; and was a talented artist of oil paintings.

Funeral services were held at Snover-Givnish Funeral Home in Cinnaminson, N.J., at 11 a.m., Sept. 27, 2007. Interment followed at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, N.J.
