That was then...
"During the 100 years of its life, The News (which we are proud to be able to call Early County's oldest business institution) has survived many hardships and handicaps - including the War Between the States, the Spanish American War, two World Wars and the Korean War. It has remained in continuous publication, even through the horrors of Reconstruction, and thus far is holding its own during another similar experience. And may we modestly add that, although probably none who reads this will be in this life when another century has passed, we believe the Early County News - then published by we know not whom - will still be a "part and parcel" of the business life of the county which we proudly and justifiably refer to in the little box in the upper left hand corner as "The Garden Spot of God's Country." - Editor Alvin Fleming, August 26, 1959... commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Early County News Volume 149, No. 1 - Today the News is on its way to a new milestone - 150 years!
