Harvest is underway Early County's farmers are glad to finally be out in the fields harvesting their peanuts and cotton. "There was a time when we thought we had to be in the fields by Sept. 1," County Extension Director Brian Cresswell told the News Tuesday. "But, that's not true any longer, especially when planting season was delayed like this one was." The recent rains that delayed things a little longer, "were a blessing for the most part," he stated. And the crops? "Surprisingly good, so far," Cresswell stated. "But, for a few exceptions most of the fields where harvest is underway look surprisingly good.
Cresswell cautioned, however, that "We're not far enough into it to make a good call, yet."
