Bobcats barrel over Berrien County

Early County moves the ball against Berrien's defense. The Bobcats had 295 yards of total offense and the defense held the Rebels to 81 yards of offense.
The Early County Bobcats improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in region 1- AA with a convincing win over a scrappy Berrien County football team Friday night in Nashville.

The Bobcats built a 14-0 halftime advantage with two scores in the second period.

After the defense, which allowed the Rebels just 82 yards total all night, set the offense up in great field position at the Berrien 49- yard line Neko Wimberly scored on the second play from scrimmage on a 39- yard run at the 10:33 mark of the second quarter to give Early the only points they would need on the night.

Mark Cullpepper added the first of his four extra points on the night to make the score 7-0.

Berrien missed an opportunity to narrow the margin a few minutes later but missed a 43-yard field goal. Early County then marched 80 yards on 18 plays to take a 14-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Mike Perry was five for 19 passing on the drive, using four different receivers and added 23 yards rushing.

Dionnis Bryant caught two balls on the march for 13 yards. Vintavious Stovall caught one for a five-yard gain, Tracy Anthony had a big catch for 13 yards and a first down, and Adonnis Lee caught a pass for 13 yards and also rushed an 8-yard gain on the drive.Wimberly finished off the scoring drive with a 1-yard run with just 36 seconds left in the half.

Neither team could score in the third quarter. Early defense dominated the Rebels, allowing no first downs and forcing a turnover in the period. The Bobcats moved the ball from time to time, but were stopped by numerous penalties in the third quarter.

ut the fourth quarter

belonged to the Bobcats. Demetrius Cody made a brilliant defensive play, coming through the Rebel line to force a fumble at the Berrien 4-yard line. Wimberly scored on the next play to make the score 20-0 at the 6:28 mark of the final period.

After forcing another Rebel punt the Bobcats scored again on their next possession when Perry found Bryant running down the sideline and hit him in stride for a 54-yard touchdown pass at the 3:45 mark of the fourth quarter. Culpepper's kick made the score 27-0.

Berrien fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Lee recovered the ball at the Rebel 9 yard line. Scooter Freeman then carried three times, the last one from 1- yard out at the 2:17 mark of the fourth quarter to make the final score 34-0.

The Bobcats continue region play this week when they travel to Camilla to take on Mitchell County. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Stadium.
