Jakin fire department receives new truck and equipment
The truck is fully equipped with communications equipment, ample water hoses, a deluge gun, four front attack lines, a 1,250-gallon water tank, drafting and hydrant pumping abilities, portable dump tank, generator and emergency lighting; light extrication abilities; and foaming capabilities. It is equipped with saws to clear roadways, saw through walls and roofs, a smoke fan and is equipped with enough air supply to support firemen with over four hours of air. The Jakin City Council equipped the truck with emergency medical supplies including a defibrillator, oxygen, splints, and spine and head immobilization capabilities. The Jakin volunteers are highly trained and capable of using this equipment when needed. The Jakin volunteers, along with Jarrett, have worked hard to lower the station's ISO rating which would lower insurance cost. The Jakin Voulnteers train one afternoon every two weeks with neighboring Donalsonville Fire Department, and with Early County Fire training sessions. Whether the pager tones in the wee hours of the morning, or during the day, men and women of the volunteer fire department respond. Many thanks go the Early County commissioners, EMA fire coordinator Ray Jarrett, Georgia Forestry, Donalsonville Fire Department and the Jakin city council for giving the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department the tools and training to protect the community and county.
The Jakin volunteers include: Dave Morris, firefighter; Patricia Grubbs, firefighter, EMT; Dustin Ward, firefighter, EMT; Steve McClellan, support personnel; Billy Garrett, support personnel; Brandon Lane, firefighter, first responder; David Donalson, firefighter, first responder; Robert Dukes, firefighter, first responder; and Rick Ward, firefighter, first responder, chief.
