Nelle Bridges

Nelle Moody Bridges, 95, of Bartlesville, Okla., died Wednesday, June 20, 2007.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Early County Dec. 2, 1911, to the late Sam Moody and Mary Myrtle Moody.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Bridges; and a brother, Ralph Moody.

Survivors include two daughters, Marian Carroll and husband Paige of Indio, Calif., and Mary Sam Flemlee of Ramona, Okla.; one sister, Maxine Moody Looper of Paradise, Calif.; four grandchildren, Scott Carroll of Anoka, Minn., Lisa Carroll Turney of Las Vegas, Nev., Laura Livingston Glasgow of Ramona, Okla. and Allison Humphries of Tulsa, Okla.; six great-grandchilden; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Interment will be Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at Blakely Cemetery with Rev. Rick Turner officiating.

Rosie Macken

Rosie Lee Grier Macken, 80, of Blakely died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Albany.

Mrs. Macken was born in Blakely March 22, 1927, to the late Essie Grier George. She received her education in the Early County School System and was the oldest of six children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Macken; and two sons, Harold Grier and Bernard Grier.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew Grier of Cleveland, Ohio, and Marcel Macken and wife Valdire of Miami; two daughters, Linda White and husband James and Sarah Macken, all of Albany; four stepchildren, all of Miami; two brothers, William Grier and wife Elizabeth of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Ralph Grier and wife Shirley of Walkersville, Md.; one sister, Helen Humphrey and husband Calvin of Cleveland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Alphonso Thomas Chapel of Martin Luther King Funeral Home in Albany with Rev. C.L. Green officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Albany.

Pallbearers were Michael Fleming, Jarris Finch, Andrew Grier, Dennis Davis, Harold Lamar and Marcel Macken.

Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Jean Evans

Retired

Jean Ridenour Evans, 82, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, in Ft.Walton Beach, Fla.

Mrs. Evans was born in Greenville, S.C., Nov. 24, 1929, to the late Edward Charles Ridenour and Pauline Nancy Mathews Ridenour. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and a retired nurse's assistant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Evans.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann Evans of Warner Robins; three sons, Randy Evans of Milton, Fla., Ronald Evans of Edison and Mike W. Arms of Greenville, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services were Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington with Rev. Charles Ricks officiating.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maggie Horn

Retired

Maggie Horn, 86, of Donalsonville died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at the Donalsonville Hospital Emergency Room.

Mrs. Horn was born in Seminole County April 6, 1921, to the late Emerson and Belle Earnest Faircloth. She worked in the dietary department of Donalsonville Hospital until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Rabon Odom and Raymond Horn; three sons, Bobby Odom, Ralph Odom and Ronald Odom; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Onys Brimlow and husband Paul of LaGrange and Peggy Isler and husband Jerry of Donalsonville; two sons, Gene Horn and wife Lucille of Donalsonville and Bruce Horn and wife Debbie of Jakin; two sisters, Grace Whittaker and Valeta Whittaker, both of Donalsonville; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Donalsonville Church of God with Rev. Stan Long and Rev. Eric Boomer officiating. Interment followed at Salem- Seminole Baptist Cemetery in Donalsonville.

Pallbearers were Glenn "Buddy" Whittaker, Kenny Whittaker, Greg Whittaker, Christopher Whittaker, Ellis Odom and Larry Tyler.

Armie Gray

Armie Bell Gray, 76, of Blakely died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Mrs. Gray was born in Blakely Oct. 26, 1930, to the late Elder George and Birchie Brooks. She was a member of St. John Pine View Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Gray; a son, Terry Reynolds; three brothers, Amos George, Freddie George and Woodrow George; and two sisters, Mary Georga and Dorothy Brown.

Survivors include her son, Larry Reynolds and wife Debra of Blakely; three sisters, Martha Wade of Dania, Fla., Annie Rhodes of Hollywood, Fla., and Annie Moore of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers, Willie George and wife Inez of Blakely, Gene Autry George and wife Dorothy, Horace George and wife Minnie, all of Tampa; five grandchildren, LaShea Reynolds of Edison, Bridgett Collins and husband Ken, Larry Reynolds Jr., Tabitha Reynolds and Devyn Reynolds, all of Blakely; 10 greatgrandchildren, Jerald Reynolds, Terry Reynolds, Teriak Reynolds, Destiny Middleton, Kimberlexia Reynolds, Kendrevious Collins, Restaious Reynolds, Kyn'Dacia Collins, Sariah Reynolds and Kendrick Collins Jr.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Willie Kegler officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ken Collins, Sammy Brown, Amos George, Kevin George, Lester George, Vincent George, Robert George and Willie Ralph George.

Peoples Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita Lane

Bookkeeper

Juanita Wren Lane, 80, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Ocean Springs Hospital in Ocean Springs.

Mrs. Lane was born in Barbour County, Ala., Aug. 5, 1927, to the late James Weaver and Clara Cato Wren. She was a bookkeeper and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Lane; and a daughter, Carmen Lane.

Survivors include, two sons, Bill Lane of Atlanta and Jack Lane and wife Deborah of Ocean Springs, Miss.; six grandchildren, Justin Lane, Bo Lane, Jessica White, Carmen Woodruff, Gabe Lane and Debwren Lane; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Wren, Tommy Nalls, Justin Lane, William "Bo" Lane, Lee Lane, Jim Lane, Ted Newberry and Bill Mills.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A.J. Gentry

Former Mayor

Austin Jesse "A.J." Gentry, 80, of Blakely died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

Mr. Gentry was born in West Blockton, Ala., March 30, 1927, to the late Charlie Caldwell Gentry and Della Hyde Gentry. He was a member of Blakely First Baptist Church, a member of the Merchant Marines serving in World War II, former mayor of Blakely, former councilman for many years, member of Magnolia Lodge #86 F. & A.M., Hasan Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Royal Order of Jesters, past worshipful master of Magnolia Lodge #86, and member of American Legion, P.H. Fitzgerald Post #11. He retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Company in Cedar Springs as a maintenance mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Poole Gentry; and a grandson, Matthew Cannon.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Brown and husband John of Blakely and Terrie Cannon and husband Carey of Jakin; three sisters, Mona Ray Livingston of Crane Hill, Ala., Virginia Gosnell of Athens, Ala., and Jeanette Chasteen of Cropwell, Ala.; one brother, Horace Gentry of Crane Hill, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Jason Brown and wife Missy and Julie Brown.

Graveside services with Masonic rites were Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Blakely Cemetery with Dr. Charles DeVane officiating.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mickey Merritt

Retired

Dennis Vllee "Mickey" Merritt, 71, of Blakely died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Merritt was born in Worth County Feb. 27, 1936, to Martha Wilkerson Hutchinson of Eustis, Fla., and the late Pleamon Merritt. He was member of New Hope Baptist Church in Worth County, a retired pulp mill foreman at Georgia Pacific paper mill, worshipful master of the Magnolia Lodge No. 86 F. & A.M., a member of the Hasan Temple A.A.O.N. M.S., president of Blakely Shrine, Albany Court 159, Royal Order of Jesters, member of American Legion P.H. Fitzgerald Post #11, a member of the Three Notch EMC board of directors and a member of the Lucy Hilton Maddox Memorial Library Board of Trustees.

Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, June Allen Merritt; one son, John Allen Merritt and wife Joy of Blakely; six brothers, Jimmie Merritt of Jacksonville, Marvin Merritt and wife Beulah of Gotha, Fla., Ed Merritt and wife Carol of Ft. Myers, Fla., Dr. Walter Merritt and wife Nancy of Albany, Dr. Fred Merritt and wife Kittye of Eustis, Fla., and John Merritt and wife Sue of Eustis, Fla.; and two grandsons, Jacob Allen Merritt and Joshua Tabb Merritt, both of Blakely.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home with Rev. Heath Kahlbau officiating. Interment with Masonic rites followed at Pinelawn Gardens of Memory in Blakely.

Pallbearers were members of the Blakely Shrine Club and Magnolia Masonic Lodge.
