Bluffton grandfather wins lottery

Henry Harrell was a lucky winner in the Georgia Lottery's Win for Life drawing.
Henry Harrell, 66, of Bluffton is in amazement over winning the lottery. The grandfather of eight matched five out of six winning numbers and the Free Ball in the Sept. 8 Win for Life drawing. He will receive $1,000 a week for a year.

Tim's Trading Post in Edison, sold the winning numbers. Winning numbers from the Sept. 8 Win for Life drawing were 13-17-32-34- 37-40 and the Free Ball was 4. Harrell said the numbers he chose were a mix of family birthdays and ages.

"I always thought those numbers were lucky," he said. " I went to pick up the results, and I had to make sure my heart was still beating when I saw the numbers were my own."

Harrell and his wife, Jimmie, have eight adult children and eight grandchildren. Aside from winning the lottery, one son is a lottery-funded HOPE scholarship recipient and two grandchildren are enrolled in the prekindergarten program, which the lottery also funds.

"We'll continue to support the lottery because it's helping our kids," he shared.

The couple have no immediate plans for their winnings.

Win for Life is a multistate game played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky. As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Win for Life will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship and Georgia's Prekindergarten program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 four-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
