Bobcats battle past Bainbridge The Early County Bobcats scored two fourth quarter touchdowns in a span of 90 seconds to come from behind and beat the Bainbridge High Bearcats 20-13. Both teams played through first game jitters in the first half and wasted several excellent scoring opportunities. The Bobcats recovered an on side kick to start the ballgame and moved the football to inside the Bainbridge 10 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. After a bad snap on a punt the Bobcats started their next drive at the Bearcat 15-yard line but threw an interception at the Bainbridge 1 to end that threat. The Bearcats started successive drives from the Early County 36 and 26 yard lines, respectively, but came away empty as well. The Bobcats ended the first drive by forcing a turnover at their 2-yard line. The second drive ended with a missed Bearcat field goal after another strong defensive stand by the Bobcat defense. Early drove the football to the Bainbridge 21 yard line on their possession before again stalling and turn the ball over on downs and the Bobcat defense then forced another Bainbridge punt. After that punt, the Bearcats intercepted another Bobcat pass and had the football at the Early County 34 yard line. After a 5 yard loss on first down and an incomplete pass on second down, Bainbridge quarterback Nick Williams found wide receiver Melzie Johnson open for a 39 yard touchdown at the 2:24 mark of the second quarter. The point after was no good. Early County answered that score on their first possession of the second half, driving 66 yards on 10 plays to tie the score. Quarterback Mike Perry was 3-4 passing on the drive for 19 yards and also rushed for another 40 yards on the drive. Anthony Williams finished the drive with a 14-yard touchdown run at the 8:07 mark of the third quarter. The point after was wide left. Bainbridge would regain the lead with a 94-yard drive that used just 6 plays. Williams showed off his running ability on the march, rushing for 63 yards on the drive. His last rush was for 12 yards and gave the Bearcats a 13-6 lead with just :18 left to play in the third quarter. But the Bobcats would answer that score with a 63- yard drive midway through the final quarter. Perry completed passes to 4 different receivers on the drive. Tracy Anthony caught the first one for 9 yards on the first play off the drive. Vintavious Stovall then caught a pass for 10 yards and a first down. Dionis Bryant caught the next one for a 14-yard gain and another first down. Secore Wade then got the ball to the 2-yard line with a 27 yard catch. After a run netted no gain, Perry found Bryant for a 2-yard touchdown at the 6:53 mark of the fourth. The try for 2 failed and the Bobcats trailed 13-12. But Early got the ball right back when Tim Tinson kicked a near perfect onside kick and Kodell Collier recovered at the Bearcat 49- yard line. Bryant caught two passes for 44 yards to set up a first and goal at the Bainbridge 4-yard line. From there, Perry found Wade in the endzone for a score. Perry then hit Bryant with the two point conversion to make the final 20-13.
