Another tip of the hat, too
Mumbles
Billy Fleming

A tip of the hat to the EC 2055 folks who worked long and hard to pull off this past weekend's block party and film festival.

Saturday's activities got off to a somewhat slow start, in part because of the rain forecast, and in part because a lot of folks had no intentions of spending all day on the Square. And, the one thing they weren't going to miss was the Sawyer Brown concert.

Too bad, too. It may have been from a different era, which some of us didn't mind so much, but Ronnie Robinson and the Legends' music was the sort of stuff a lot of memories are made of.

And the film festival was a success as well, I suppose. I missed the opening breakfast, dogit! and the film folks were scattered around town going about business all day Friday. Did get to do a little meet and greet at the reception Friday night.

Judy and I thought we were going to the fancy awards banquet Saturday night in Colquitt. Friday night on the grass and all day Saturday on the pavement, however, brought the sciatic nerves into play and the tux and gown never left the closet.

The Dream Big surprise Saturday was a bigger than life pickup truck heavily branded with EC2055. Big as it was, it was pale in comparison with another big dream surprise announced last week.

The Early County School System did a little big dreaming of their own and were rewarded with a $4.3 million grant!

That's big in itself. But, the benefits that can be achieved by the three-year Early First Reading programs will be invaluable in helping solve our community's learning woes.

Impressed? Should be! We are going to have a lot of youngsters much more capable of doing their schoolwork when they reach first grade because of Early Reading First.
